Gabriel agreed to the extension after talking with his agent and senior Arsenal staff at their training base on Friday.

The 24-year-old came to Arsenal from Lille in 2020 and has played in 81 games for them, scoring nine goals.

During Arsenal’s unexpected rise to the top of the Premier League this season, he has become a key part of their defense.

Only Newcastle has given up less than the 10 goals that Mikel Arteta’s team has this season, as Gabriel and fellow center-back William Saliba work well together.

“Since he joined us, Gabi has shown a lot of great traits. “He is a young player with a great work ethic, and his strong performances over the past two seasons have been very important to us,” Arteta said.

“It’s a pleasure to work with Gabi every day. He gets along well with everyone at the club, and we’re thrilled that he’s signed a long-term deal with us.”

Gabriel said, “I want to win big titles with Arsenal. It’s my dream, and today is the best day of my life.” I’m so happy to be able to stay here longer.

“At every game, the fans push the team around in the stadium. I’m glad to stay here because of this. It’s where I live.

“In the future, I want to win games for Arsenal, win trophies with Arsenal, and stay here for a long time because it’s my home.”

Gabriel’s deal is the first in what Arsenal hopes will be a long line of players signing long-term deals with the club.

Bukayo Saka recently said that he hopes Arteta will sign a new contract soon. Gabriel Martinelli and Saliba have also been linked with new deals.
